
Johan Koorts from Absa’s corporate and investment banking division has a well-established background in the financial services industry and qualified as a chartered accountant in 2005 after completing his articles with KPMG Johannesburg and New York.
He was subsequently employed by investment banks Merrill Lynch (now part of Bank of America) and Credit Suisse in Lon- don where he focussed on emerging market country risk. He was also a transactor with a local investment boutique before joining Absa where he focuses on specialised debt finance transactions.
Johan also lectured tax at the University of Johannesburg and served for two years as lecturer for the Association of Certified Chartered Accountant. In addition to lecturing, he also published a number of articles in academic journals and served as the moderator for the accounting department of the University of Johannesburg.
His broad experience covers, inter alia, credit analyses across various sectors, detailed credit models, quantitative credit risk analysis, structuring various types of transactions and financial products, company valuations and lecturing.
